SLIDE TALKs March 2008 - Wonders of Yew - The natural and cultural history of a unique tree
Trees are essential organs of the biosphere. They maintain a healthy soil structure, the balance of the ground water table and the microclimate, a benevolent state of air electricity and even the force of the magnetic field of the Earth.
Soil erosion, floods, landslides, magnetic storms as well as changes in weather and climate are inevitable effects of global deforestation.

Since the dawn of consciousness, humans have chosen the presence of old, mighty trees for ritual and prayer, for contemplation, council and community gatherings, and for the deeper study of the laws of life, nature and spirit. An abundance of evidence for this reaches back six thousand years and more. The role of trees in the spiritual development of the human race is pan-cultural and pan-religious. And generally underestimated.

Help us to restore the ancient friendship of Human and Tree.
Help us to re-introduce Sacred Groves into the landscape.
Help us to plant gratitude and respect for all life forms.

Our aims and activities

The centrepiece of our activities will be to promote sacred groves anywhere on the British Isles and to advance the legal protection of ancient trees.

Our objects, in the legal sense, are phrased as such:

(1) To advance the education of the public in the ecological importance of trees and their amenity value and to encourage the planting, care and protection of trees.
(2) To promote the study and practice of arboriculture and forestry.
